Dear Nyonyas and Babas,
In this month’s video, I’m joined by Baba Mervin Wee and his wife, Nyonya Jean Yip.
Baba Mervin shares memories of growing up in a Peranakan household and the traditional dishes he enjoyed as a child. Nyonya Jean fondly recounts learning to cook Nyonya cuisine from her in-laws, especially her late father-in-law, Chef Jolly Wee. Together, they speak about how they live and preserve the Peranakan culture through food, attire, daily practices, and passing these traditions on to their grandchildren.
